List of Information and Documents Required for an Italian Annual Income Tax Return

Post Contents

Introduction

This blog contains an indication, in the context of a typical “expat” taxpayer resident in Italy of the information and documents that need to be collated in preparation of Italian Annual Income Tax Return.

Preparing an Italian annual income tax return can be particularly complex for expats — especially where foreign income and overseas assets are involved. This post sets out a practical, indicative list of the information and documents that are typically required for an expat taxpayer resident in Italy when starting the annual tax return process.

While the checklist aims to be comprehensive, the specific documentation required will ultimately depend on individual circumstances.

If your are reporting income and assets in a non Euro currency, the relevant values need to be converted into Euro using Bank of Italy rates following Italian Tax Agency guidelines on what rates to use.  These usually require the use of average monthly rates, rather than spot daily rates.

If you are using our services for assistance with preparation of the return, we can easily handle FX conversions. We offer a “Landing Page” to help gather the relevant information and supporting documents.
